Large Majolica Palissy Ware Plaque by Victor Benizet (French 1805--1875) with lobsters, snake, lizards, insects, snails, and various shells, and a single Egyptian Scarab (a trademark of V. Benizet), on simulated water and sea floor, with various green glazed plants, the ground glazed in cobalt blue. Measure: 17ins. Victor Benizet is credited with founding the School of Paris in 1851, establishing a workshop in Paris which would later include followers, such luminaries as Thomas-Victor Sergent, Georges Pull, and Francois Maurice*
