Its’ recent specialization in vintage modern furniture from the Mid-Century-Modern and Art Deco movements are showcased alongside an impressive selection of late 18th, 19th, and early 20th century antiques. The shop offers collections of Majolica, oil paintings, antique table and dinnerware sets, objet d'art, and leather bound books.

How and when did it all begin?

In 1995, William McLaren and Robert Ruggles’s vision came to life when they purchased the “French Country Village”, a small group of houses and shops off of Highway 105 in Banner Elk, North Carolina. Soon the walls were painted and the rooms were filled with specialty items including decorations and furniture from all over the world. Word of the shop spread quickly amongst the locals, and the shop expanded from just antiques to a full scale interior design studio and gift shop of pure magic. The Gilded Age is the undertaking of William McLaren and Robby Ruggles, owners and operators. See their about page for more [questionably useful] information. Come see us today to experience the wonder and timeless beauty that is the Gilded Age Antiques and Interiors.
