Majolica Rooster Large Spill Vase Signed Louis Carrier-Belleuse, French, ca 1890
Majolica Cockerel Spill Vase by Choisy-le-Roi, naturalistically modeled and glazed as a crowing rooster on a molded barnyard base, the rectangular vase formed by simulated stacked stones with trailing ivy and pink glazed cornflowers, with impressed signature to base, 'LOUIS CARRIER-BELLEUSE', the reverse with impressed design number, '1569' and painted monogram 'HB&Cie, Choisy-le-Roi, France.' Choisy employed the curious practice of including the owner of the firm's initials, H.B., for Hippolyte Boulanger, in its marks.
Artist: Louis-Robert Carrier-Belleuse (French 1848-1913)
For thirty years we have been among the preeminent specialists in fine antique majolica.
