A Victoria Pottery Majolica Yellow Basketweave Sardine Box, English, ca. 1882
A Rare Victoria Pottery Company Majolica Sardine Box, English, ca. 1882, with molded and applied sardines on green-glazed lotus pads and other foliage, trimmed in yellow bamboo with green shoots, the body and integral underplate are molded as a yellow-glazed woven basket, the interior glazed in turquoise.
This piece, with a brown ground, is included in the Karmason Stacke Library of the Majolica International Society, number KL013354, with the designation “Very Rare.”
