George Jones Majolica Oyster Dish, the six turquoise-glazed wells separated by coral tentacles, the central dipping well naturalistically molded as an oyster half-shell applied on a bed of green-glazed seaweed, with a yellow ocher rim; the reverse glazed in green and brown tortoiseshell mottling with impressed marks, 'GJ' monogram, and British Registry diamond for 15 September 1874; with painted design number in the thumbprint reserve, '3401,' which corresponds to the entry, 'Oyster Plate, turq. gr. [ground] pink shell centre,' along with a drawing of the design (illustrated in Dawes, p. 116) in the George Jones Majolica Pattern Books partially preserved in the Wedgwood Archives, Victoria and Albert Museum, World of Wedgwood, Barlaston, UK and reprinted in Bergesen.
