Louis Vuitton Vintage French Luggage Company “Speedy 40" Monogram Handbag, 1980. This iconic speedy was first introduced in the 1930's and was designed as an alternative for the larger "Keepall" bag per Audrey Hepburns request. Louis Vuittons newest edition was originally referred to as the "express bag" measuring at what would later become the most popular size at "30cm" long. This speedy is Pre-1980 and is the largest Speedy (40cm) design before the sizing moves over to the larger keepall size. This specific speedy was produced by the French Leather Company for Louis Vuitton whom the brand partnered with during the 1970's to meet the demand in the United States. Bags produced during this time period for Louis Vuitton did not have an internal date stamp or embossed metals, but were rather recognized by the craftsmanship and patination that the French Leather Company was known for. This speedy is made from monogrammed coated canvas, leather vachetta piping with brown canvassed interior, "Louis Vuitton" heat stamp on vachetta pull tabs and French Luggage Company "eclair" hardware.
