Large Wedgwood Majolica Dragon teapot in cobalt blue, English, Dated 1871, modeled by the famous mid-19th century French sculptor, Hugues Protât. In the Japonisme taste; the bail handle modeled as a dragon, its tail curled around the ovid-shaped pot glazed in cobalt blue, the body arched and head uplifted to form the spout. Impressed 'WEDGWOOD' with date cypher for 1871 and impressed stylized monogram 'HP' for Hugues Protât, with painted pattern number '1213' which corresponds to 'Dragon Kettle' in the Wedgwood Majolica Pattern Numbers Books from the Wedgwood Archive. see footnote.
