Minton Majolica Spiky Fish Teapot, English, Dated 1878

Minton Majolica Spiky Fish Teapot, English, Dated 1878

$0.00

Minton Majolica Fish Teapot, modeled as a stylized fish in waves, the seaweed-formed handle surmounted with a seashell, the dorsal fin forming the lid, and the interior glazed in lilac. Impressed marks to reverse, 'MINTONS,' and British Registry Diamond for 2 October 1878, and Minton date cypher for 1878.

Jeffery Snyder states that in 1998 an identical teapot sold at Skinner's for $28,000 plus buyer's premium, and another in 2001 at Sotheby's for $35,250. He adds, "This price was achieved even though the lid had cracks, some restoration had taken place, and there were chips on the spout."*

For thirty years we have been among the preeminent specialists in fine, antique majolica.
