Minton Majolica seafood plate with fish and shells, English, dated 1872, the scalloped center glazed in turquoise, bordered with naturalistically glazed and relief molded fish and scallop shells glazed in white, pink, and red; the reverse with impressed marks: 'MINTON,' date cypher for 1872, British Registry diamond for 21 January 1869 (when the design was registered), and design number '1496' for the entry, 'FISH PLATE (M), 10",' as recorded in the Minton Ornamental Shapes, (i.e. design books) preserved in the Minton archives and reprinted in J. Jones.*

This design is documented in the Karmason Library of the Majolica International Society, Number KL001877P with the rarity designation 'Rare.'

Condition: Good- Repaired: Invisible Professional Restoration to one area of the rim. Wear consistent with age and use.
