George Jones Majolica Trompe L'oeil Waterlily Tile, Cobalt Ground, ca. 1880
George Jones Majolica Trompe L'oeil Rare Tile, naturalistically molded in high relief with a large green-glazed lily pad and waterlilies, on a cobalt blue ground, the reverse with impressed monogram for George Jones & Sons, ca. 1880, 8.25-ins. Dawes illustrates five tile designs by the firm "from the small range of majolica tiles...produced at the Trent potteries of George Jones & Sons, Stoke-on-Trent, circa 1880. He observes, "George Jones did not compete strongly in the decorative tile market, and examples from this factory, all of which were majolica-glazed, are rare."*
