Hermès "Le Carnaval De Venise" Jacquard Silk Twill Scarf by Hubert de Watrigant, 1993. "Le Carnaval de Venise" or French for "The Carnival in Venice" depicts one of the oldest carnivals in Europe which dates back to the early 16th Century. The design depicts scenes from the "Commedia del'Arte" and celebrates the rich history in the tradition of music and mask wearing that providing social anonymity to the population of Venice. Handcrafted in France to the highest luxury standards, Hermès scarves are true wearable pieces of art that take 18 months to create from start to finish with over 750 artisan hours into each scarf design. This extremely popular and highly sought after design was made by famous equestrian designer Hubert de Watrigant who was responsible for many iconic designs such as "Les Chevaux Qataris" and "Ballet Equestre". This design also has a controversial history as the city of Venice sued Hermès resulting in the renaming of the scarf to "Fetes Venitiennes" in 1999.
